How it works

From adding a project to the first donation β€” the whole flow in 4 steps.

Step 1

🏷️ Badge in README

The creator pastes one line of Markdown/HTML from their dashboard β€” the badge shows the current coverage status.

Step 2

πŸ’³ Donation page

A visitor clicks the badge and lands on the project's public page β€” sees the costs, the coverage bar, and picks an amount.

Step 3

πŸ”’ Stripe payment

BLIK or card via Stripe Checkout β€” coverly never stores payment data.

Step 4

πŸ“Š Creator dashboard

The creator sees the new donation in their dashboard and can export the history to CSV.

ℹ️ coverly does not offer a public API for third-party integrations β€” the only "consumers" of a project's data are the creator's own dashboard (once logged in) and the public badge SVG.

Donor FAQ

The most common questions from people supporting projects on coverly.

Is my payment safe?

Yes. Payments are handled exclusively by Stripe β€” coverly never processes or stores your card data.

Can I get a refund for my donation?

A donation is voluntary support and, as a rule, is non-refundable. A refund is only possible in case of a clear technical error (e.g. a duplicate charge), an unauthorized transaction confirmed by Stripe, or the creator's own decision to voluntarily refund a donation. In such cases, email prywatnosc@coverly.cc.

Can I pay with BLIK?

Yes β€” BLIK is available for payments in Polish zΕ‚oty (PLN), with no account registration required. For payments in US dollars (USD), card payment is available.

Badge/README integration

If you're a project creator, paste one line into your README to show the current coverage status β€” it's a static SVG image, just like any other badge, not a call to any external service.

Taxes β€” information for creators

General information, not tax or legal advice. The creator who receives the payments is responsible for accounting for them, and the obligations depend on their situation β€” if in doubt, ask a tax adviser (Polish rules are described below).

Who accounts for the payments?

The creator who receives them. coverly does not do tax accounting on creators' behalf and is not a party to their obligations towards the tax office. Funds go directly to the creator's Stripe account.

Is such a payment a donation?

It can be, but not always, and the case law is not uniform. In interpretations about payments from supporters of online creators, the tax authorities have so far held that a payment from a person who can be identified by at least first and last name may be a donation under the Polish inheritance and gift tax act, while an anonymous or pseudonymous payment is income. The Supreme Administrative Court, in 2026, held that the mere impossibility of establishing the payer's details does not rule out a donation. Individual interpretations bind only the applicant, and the assessment depends on the circumstances β€” if in doubt, ask a tax adviser.

What if I offer something in return?

If supporters get anything in return for a payment (access to content, rewards, a mention, a service), the payment stops being a pure donation and may be income. coverly assumes payments with nothing offered in return, towards the costs of a project.

What is the tax-free amount?

For people unrelated to the donor (tax group III) the tax-free amount is currently PLN 5,733 in total for donations from the same person within 5 years. Above it, the donation is reported to the tax office (form SD-3, as a rule within a month of receiving it) and tax may be due. Different rules apply to close family. Check the current amounts and deadlines.

What does the "tax threshold" badge in the dashboard mean?

The dashboard adds up the payments from one donor (recognised by e-mail address) since the beginning and flags the donor when the total reaches PLN 5,733. This is a simplification: the law counts only the last 5 years and takes the degree of kinship into account, so the badge is a hint, not a determination.

How can I make correct accounting easier?

Keep the CSV export from the dashboard and the Stripe receipts. The "Full name" field of the payment form is required (at least two words), so the export holds details that identify the donor, but coverly does not verify them and a payer can type anything; if you want the payments treated as donations, agree on the donor's details another way when in doubt. A donor can tick that they do not want to appear on the public donations list; you still see their details in the export.
